Agriculture and Mechanical Engineering

Traditional applications for Desmopan® and Texin® TPUs in industry and mechanical engineering include:

  • rollers for transport trucks
  • seals and gaskets
  • conveyor rolls
  • screen elements for ore extraction
  • sliding protective rings for steel cables of diamond saws

For such injection-molded parts, our thermoplastic polyurethanes provide outstanding wear resistance, dynamic load-bearing resistance, and damping properties.   Soft touch and a good grip are also key requirements for plastic machine handles and can be achieved using Desmopan or Texin TPUs.

Helping Farmers Sow and Harvest

Farm equipment such as harrows and picking prongs are made of thermoplastic polyurethance.  There is also a growing demand for animal marking tags made from Desmopan and Texin TPUs.

New material properties, new opportunities

Desmopan and Texin TPUs are being used in innovative applications such as the construction of machinery and apparatus.  Features for these applications include good drop test performance and integral hinge capability.

More Flexible and Plasticizer-free

New, more flexible grades of Desmopan have only a 60-80 Shore A hardness value and are free of plasticizers.  This was achieved without any significant compromise on wear or abrasion properties.  These grades include Texin DP7-1199 and Desmopan DP 6065A.

Possible applications for these grades include spring elements, integral hinges, molded-in sealing kips, impact strips and bellows.  Because of their soft-touch properties, these grades are also suitable for overmolding plastic grips and handles and adhere well to many thermoplastics.
