Water

Water is omnipresent either as solid, liquid or vapor. It can readily and unintentionally become a component of plastic materials altering their performance properties for worst. Molded parts can also absorb water when they are in contact with liquid water or even from the atmospheric moisture.

At high temperatures, hydrolysis can occur even in molded parts. Parts anticipated having continuous exposure to liquid water should be made of materials that are less susceptible to such attack.

Some materials are permeable to water. A layer of barrier material on the part molded of permeable material is often used to achieve water barrier properties.
