Quality Management System

A Quality Statement has been developed that speaks specifically to Bayer MaterialScience's commitment to quality.

We the employees of BMS are committed to progressive customer satisfaction in everything we do.

Our policy will be achieved through being a recognized leader in...

  • The development, manufacture, and delivery of products and services that consistently meet our customers' requirements.
  • Implementing and following a quality management system that meets the requirements of ISO 9001.
  • Cultivating an environment that ensures continual performance improvement to our customers through visible management commitment.

Our Quality Management System (QMS) applies to activities that affect quality and is implemented within Bayer to ensure that customer requirements are met. From order entry through design, manufacturing and delivery, activities are controlled in accordance with the commitments of the QMS. Bayer MaterialScience business functions and manufacturing sites are ISO-9001:2000 certified.

ISO Compliance

All of our manufacturing sites, customer service operations and supply chain operations maintain quality systems registered to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. In this way, the customer is assured of unmatched reliability and consistency regarding Bayer produced material.

Copies of all quality certificates for Bayer's North American facilities are available on this Web Site in a folder titled "Quality Certificates" in the RESOURCES section, or upon e-mail request to naftainfo@bayerbms.com.

To be certified to the ISO standard, companies must implement a quality management system (QMS) embracing all company's activities, including: employee training, customer interaction, meeting customer requirements, product design and development, purchasing materials and services, and delivering products and while fostering an environment for continual improvement.

Continual Improvement

Six Sigma (6) is a rigorous, focused and highly effective implementation of proven quality principles and techniques. Six sigma was developed for Continuous Improvement (CI) in the mid-1980s with dramatic results.

Since then, a number of companies have adopted the Six Sigma approaches to CI, with customization as required. Bayer MaterialScience has adopted numerous Six Sigma tools and advanced statistical techniques to analyze processes for improvement possibilities. Some examples include:

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • DMAIC (Define Measure Analyze Improve Control)
  • Control Charts, Pareto Charts
  • FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
  • Process Mapping
  • IS/IS NOT
  • Transactional and physical process improvements
  • DOE (Design of Experiments)
  • Gauge R&R
  • Hypothesis Testing
