Polychloroprenes for solventborne adhesives
Under the product name Baypren®, Bayer markets a polychloroprene (poly-2-chlorobutadiene-1,3), produced by a state-of-the-art process.
Properties: The Baypren® grades differ with regard to their crystallization rate and solution viscosity. The 200 range has a medium crystallization rate and the 300 range a fast crystallization rate. As far as the solution viscosity is concerned, we offer Baypren® grades with viscosities between 10 and 150 mP...s. In addition, the product range includes Baypren® grades both with and without thiuram. Adhesives based on Baypren® are noted for their long open time and the high initial strength of the bonds.
Uses:
Baypren® is used for the production of adhesives for the footwear industry. It is used particularly where high material stresses are exerted on the bond (for example when bonding highly curved soles), and/or the bonded items are subjected to further processing (eg. on the conveyor belt) very soon after bonding. If Desmodur® is added, Baypren® can also be used for bonding rubber materials that are otherwise difficult to bond. We recommend thiuram-free Baypren® grades especially for bonding sensitive, light-colored materials. Baypren® grades with a medium crystallizing rate can be used where particularly long open times are specified.
Advantages:
- Long open time
- High initial strength
- High resistance to chemicals and weathering
