Polyurethanes for solventborne adhesives

High-molecular-weight polyurethanes terminated with hydroxyl groups are marketed under the name Desmocoll®. Desmocoll® hydroxyl polyurethanes are polyaddition products based on bifunctional polyesters and isocyanates.

Properties: The Desmocoll® grades differ with respect to their crystallization rate, solution viscosity and thermoplasticity. The Desmocoll® grades of the 400, 500 and 600 ranges are characterized by high to very high crystallinity. The Desmocoll® grades based on aromatic isocyanates have a tendency to yellowing on exposure to light.

Uses: In the transportation industry, Desmocoll® has proved ideal in the production of adhesives for the lamination of PVC films or fabrics to various backing materials.

Advantages:

  • Excellent solubility in many organic solvents
  • Outstanding adhesion to numerous synthetic materials
  • Lasting bonds with highly plasticized PVC (Desmocoll® 400, 500 or 600)
