Bayer MaterialScience releases trend-right cool color palette for polycarbonate materials

Candy, Marina, Tortuga, Twist and Wysterical make bold entrance

October 1, 2009

Pittsburgh, October 1, 2009 — Continuing to build on the strong trend in color toward the bold and bright, Bayer MaterialScience LLC adds five new colors to LEDA® Compounded Color Technology's JUST COOL color family.

The color experts at Bayer MaterialScience are taking cues from the Color Marketing Group (CMG), while adding their own unique flair. CMG is an international not-for-profit association of color design professionals based in Alexandria, Va. The latest colors from Bayer MaterialScience allow product designers to take risks with color and inject excitement into their product offerings in a challenging economic climate.

CMG reports that color is responsible for up to 85 percent of the reason people decide to buy. The bold and bright trend is based upon insights from 1,000 color experts from a broad cross-section of industries worldwide. Bayer MaterialScience, a CMG member company, develops additions to the Fantasia® color palette from these global color forecasts to ensure that its customers can leverage the new and emerging trends to create newness in their offerings.

"Our latest color palette pushes the edge of color crispness, as we continue to align with the trend toward eye-popping hues," said Michael George, site lab manager at Bayer MaterialScience's Color Competence and Design Center in Newark, Ohio. "These upbeat colors lend themselves well to bold combinations or as stand-out, stand-alone hues that are fresh and festive."

The latest LEDA Compounded Color Technology JUST COOL colors are:

  • Candy — dandy eye candy that's a translucent spin on red with an upbeat techno-flamingo or techno-salmon spirit.

  • Marina — a translucent, cool, spa-like blue that makes gentle waves by calming and nourishing the spirit and is in growing demand as blue "becomes the new green" for environmentally conscious products.

  • Tortuga — an opaque green that screams "notice me" with a nod to nature and grandma's avocado-green blender, and is just begging to be paired with other bold hues.

  • Twist — a translucent lollipop-lemon yellow that almost makes your mouth water, makes you want to twist and shout, and share a smile.

  • Wysterical — a dense, intense opaque purple that captures the season's hottest fashion hue and might just remind you of every child's favorite purple dinosaur!
