Polyurethane foam insulation obtains ICC-ES certification: Bayseal™ OC spray polyurethane foam receives certification for thermal protection in building insulation

June 24, 2008

Pittsburgh, June 24, 2008 — One of the fundamental components of energy- efficient building design and construction is effective insulation. Building regulators, contractors, architects and engineers look for products with insulating properties that not only have a proven record of performance, but are also certified to stand up to their companies’ claims. With the announcement that its Bayseal™ OC spray polyurethane foam insulation has been reviewed by ICC Evaluation Service, Inc., BaySystems North America LLC, a subsidiary of Bayer MaterialScience LLC (BMS), can assure these decision-makers that Bayseal OC is a high-performance, economical insulation solution for residential, commercial and industrial structures.

Bayseal OC spray polyurethane foam insulation is an open-cell, two-component, low-density, water-blown system specifically designed for insulation applications. The Bayseal OC system provides improved occupant comfort, a cleaner indoor environment, greater noise reduction and superior energy savings over conventional insulation systems. ICC-ES has reviewed Bayseal OC for thermal protection in building insulation.

ICC-ES is a nonprofit corporation that conducts technical evaluations of building products, components, methods and materials for regulatory agencies and building product manufacturers. ICC-ES reports help agencies determine code compliance and enforce building regulations, while manufacturers use reports as proof that their products meet code requirements and warrant regulatory approval. The reports are also tools used by building regulators, manufacturers, contractors, specifiers, architects and engineers as confirmation that products and systems are code-compliant.

“The ICC-ES report provides us with certifiable evidence that Bayseal OC spray polyurethane foam insulation meets key building code requirements and acceptance criteria – from a respected source that is accessible by any interested party,” said Jerry Whitaker, director, technology, BaySystems North America. “The ICC-ES certification process makes life easier for everyone involved with the building and insulating processes – from the architects to the contractors in the field, and everyone in between.”

Bayseal OC spray polyurethane foam insulation expands 120:1 from its liquid state, filling cracks, voids, crevices and building cavities to provide a climate controlled building that mitigates moisture accumulation, airflow through and within walls, and heat and cold transfer in the building materials. This barrier results in minimal infiltration and exfiltration, low thermal conductivity and a reduced chance for mold and mildew, while minimizing the transfer of sound. Bayseal OC spray polyurethane foam is well-suited for use in wall cavities, floor assemblies, ceiling assemblies, attics and crawl spaces.

“As building and construction decision-makers continually look for the most innovative and technically advanced products on the market, Bayseal OC’s ICC-ES report will help guide them to this exceptional offering in the BaySystems materials portfolio,” said Whitaker.
