Did We Mention No-Limits Style?
As with any major purchase decision, alternative energy vehicle (AEV) buyers want to believe, see, touch and feel value for their investment. Bayer MaterialScience technologies can help an AEV design convey quality, style and even a touch of luxury. Whether in interior appointments or exterior glazing, Bayer MaterialScience solutions can help you design for fresh appeal, the "wow" factor and maybe even seal the deal!
Electroluminescent films that light up when an electric current is applied to them create a "wow" in interior accents for effect and to accentuate styling for a high-tech appearance. Designs are limited only by the imagination since Bayer MaterialScience Lyttron technology makes it possible for these films to be molded into any 3-D shape — from interior design accents to exterior badging or trim features.
Bayer MaterialScience also has soft-feel coatings that can be applied to many of the plastic controls and surfaces in the cockpit based on high-grade coating materials in the Bayhydrol® and Bayhydur® polyurethane dispersion series. They give the "cold" plastic surfaces a soft, warm, luxurious feel that is particularly pleasant to touch.
Polyurethane-based topcoats help keep AEVs looking 'good as new' longer. Using a polyurethane-based topcoat offers your customers a self-healing capability, as the warmth of the sun causes small scratches to "melt away" and "disappear."
Bayer MaterialScience worked with the design team on the Hyundai i-mode concept car on LED headlamps made from polycarbonate to give the vehicle state-of-the-art technology. A collimator lens made of Makrolon® polycarbonate bundles the LED light and aims it precisely at the road. Polycarbonate has several advantages over glass and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, acrylic) in this application. The fine lens geometries can be produced more accurately and more cost-effectively by injection molding in polycarbonate than with processes using glass. It is also lighter than glass and does not need polishing.
When looking for colors and special effects for Bayer MaterialScience engineered plastics, look no further than the three Fantasia® color technologies which offer the broadest range of color and special effect options to accentuate sleek AEV features and styling innovations.
