Bayer
MaterialScience introduces fire resistant Baytec ®
SPR 185A
FR thick film coating system for industrial roofing applications
Spray
System meets UL790 standards for fire resistance of roof covering
materials
PITTSBURGH, October 29, 2007
Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) LLC has expanded its portfolio of
thick film coating systems with the introduction of Baytec®
SPR 185A FR (fire resistant) thick film coating system.
BMS also announces that the spray system, formulated specifically
to protect metal or concrete industrial roof systems, has passed
Underwriters Laboratories Inc.'s UL790 test for fire resistance
of roof covering materials.
Underwriters Laboratories
works with the roofing industry to develop standards that evaluate
and measure distinct characteristics regarding the performance of
roofing materials and systems with respect to fire safety and property
protection. The UL790 fire resistance rating is highly desirable
in industrial applications, as it can result in lower insurance
premiums for building owners.
As the world's largest producer
of polyurethane specialty chemicals, Bayer continues to be a leading
innovator in thick film coating systems with the introduction of
the Baytec SPR 185A FR fire resistant spray system, said Dr. Michael
Hurley, senior scientist. In addition to its flame resistance properties,
the Baytec spray system also limits costly roof corrosion as well
as water damage to internal structures, thereby increasing the service
life of the overall structure.
The Baytec SPR 185A FR system
is spray applied, making application quick and easy and eliminating
the costly, labor-intensive and time-consuming application process
of rolled sheet. The spray system combines durability, flexibility
and rapid cure to create a monolithic seamless roof coating that
provides exceptional protection against leaks, weathering and foot
traffic.
Furthermore, the spray system
offers excellent resistance to ozone, hydrolysis and many chemicals,
and even passes the Ponding Water Test where other roof coatings
fail. Baytec 185A FR thick film coating provides a seamless, homogeneous
seal over joints and fasteners even around roof kneewalls and
roof protrusions such as vent pipes and HVAC systems.
